Role of the Commission

The role of the Chief Commissioner’s Office includes the coordination of activities of the different departments falling under its aegis. It aslo acts as a facilitator for the creation & monitoring of a modern corporate environment and while taking into account the management of human resources and exercises of proper control on assets, revenues and expenditures. The main areas of responsibilities include:

Mission
  • Ensure efficiency in service delivery of the Civil Status Office
  • Ensure the development of the Port and Civil Aviation sector to meet the economic and social requirements of the island
  • Provide accurate and timely weather information regarding Rodrigues Island to the Meteorological Services in Mauritius
  • Administer Judicial services in Rodrigues
  • Ensure the conservation and preservation of the marine environment
Strategies
  • Provide timely delivery of civil status certificates and national identity cards
  • Develop the Port and the Airport infrastructure to support the future economic and social development
  • Disseminate weather forecasts and information to the population
  • Provide support to improve the infrastructure of the Judicial system in order to afford a speedy process for all court hearings and to ensure that the concept of separation of powers is scrupulously seen to be observed
  • Sustain the future needs of the island
