About Us
The Civil Status Division Rodrigues falls under the aegis of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Chief Commissioner’s Office in the Rodrigues Regional Assembly. It comprises of the Main office located at ‘Rue François Leguat’ Port Mathurin, the Mauritius National Identity Card Section, and one sub office located at La Ferme Administrative Block.

- To maintain a Civil Status Database to generate a unique Identification Number for each citizen of the Republic of Mauritius at the time of registration of birth

Roles and Functions
To ensure that all civil status events in Rodrigues are registered. The CSD is governed by the following set of legislations:
- Constitution of Mauritius
- Civil Status Act and its regulations
- National Identity Card Act and its regulations
- Data Protection Act and its regulations
- Code Civil Mauricien
- National Archives Act
- Mauritian Citizenship Act
The Officer in Charge of Civil Status Rodrigues is responsible for:
- The smooth running of the Civil Status Division
- The registration of birth, death and civil marriage and every matter relating to the civil status of a person in Rodrigues
- The registration of civil status matters concerning foreigners occurring in Rodrigues
- Keeping record of foreign births, deaths and marriages
- Liaising with the Registrar of Civil Status for every matters pertaining to Civil status amendments, rectification, magistrate orders and others
- The registration of death during weekends and public holidays and even after office hours
- The issue of burial/cremation permits
Services Offered
Main services provided by the Civil Status Division
- Registration of births within 60 days, deaths within 48 hours, Civil marriage after 10 days’ publication for citizens in Rodrigues
- Publication & celebration of civil marriages citizen and foreigners
- Issuance of Civil status extracts
- Annotations pertaining to the civil status of a person, for eg: change of name, divorce, adoption and rectifications, etc
- Amend and rectify any civil status entry which involves a clerical, typing or numerical mistake
- Registration issuance of National Identity cards
- Online Applications of Civil status extracts: The Mokloud platform was launched in September 2021 to allow online application of birth and marriage certificates
Our main objectives
- To provide a timely service to our customers in an efficient and effective manner
- To standardize our operation procedures for the issuance of extracts of civil Status certificates (i.e. Birth, marriage and death) at the main and sub office
- To carry out annotations in the civil status documents (such as Divorce, Change of Name, Rectification, and Adoption cases) as ordered by the court within shortest delay
