The International Youth Day 2024 was celebrated on August 12 at the Ruy Karl Allas Cultural and Leisure Center in Mon Plaisir. This year’s theme was “From Click to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.”
The ceremony was attended by the Chief Commissioner, Franceau Aubret Grandcourt, G.O.S.K., the Youth Commissioner, Varok Ravina, and the President of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly, Joseph Christian Leopold, G.O.S.K.
The Chief Commissioner emphasized his government’s commitment to youth through initiatives such as free Wi-Fi, holiday activities, free school meals to the younger, and the ban on concerts during exams. Moreover, he also warned against excessive use of technology, encouraging young people to use social media responsibly and to be careful to avoid harmful behaviours.
The Youth Commissioner launched the “Youth Digital Competition” for the occasion, to promote digital innovation for sustainable development. He also praised the participants for their creativity and adaptability.
The celebration concluded with the screening of clips made by the participants and the awarding of prizes to the winners of the competition.
In connection with the celebration, the Chief Commissioner Franceau Aubret Grandcourt, G.O.S.K., along with his colleague Varok Ravina, Youth Commissioner, participated in a symbolic march organised on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
