About Us
The Tourism Sector has a significant contribution to the economy of the island. Figures shows that the sector has successfully recovered from the negative impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic. From January to December 2023, total tourist arrivals in Rodrigues stood at 99,066 compared to 77,831 for the same period in 2019. Visitors traveling to Rodrigues are from the following main markets, Mauritius, Reunion Island and France.
In terms of marketing and promotional activities, Rodrigues, through the Rodrigues Tourism Office, has always been present on National, Regional and International Tourism Fairs which has increased its exposure to a large number of Tourism Professionals and travellers. It is worth to note that the island was awarded “Destination d’Excellence” from the Swiss Tourism Awards 2023 in Lugano, Switzerland.
In line with efforts for regional integration, Rodrigues has been successfully introduced into cruise itineraries in the Indian Ocean with the arrival of 03 vessels in December 2023 carrying a total of 248 passengers. The Commission for Tourism has the responsibility to drive the tourism sector in Rodrigues so that is becomes one of the major pillar of the economy.
As such, the vision of the Commission is to “further consolidate the Tourism Sector as one of the main economic pillar of Rodrigues and to position the island as a culturally distinct destination under the concept “Ile Creole Ecologique “
