MAIN ACHEIVEMENTS OVER THE Financial Year 2023 – 2024
The overall Main Achievements of the Tourism Department for Financial Year 2023 – 2024 are:
1. Organisation of Major Tourism Events
- The Commission collaborated with the Rodrigues Kitesurfing Association (RKA) for the relaunching of the Rodrigues International Kitesurf Festival (RIKF) for its 8th Edition from 26 to 30 July 2023 after a two year break due to the COVID Pandemic. There were 37 participants to this edition
- The World Tourism Day was celebrated this year on the 26th September and 27th September 2023 with a mass and the first “Salon du Tourisme” in Rodrigues under the theme “Tourism and Green Investments
- The Commission collaborated with the “Association Guides Randonnée Rodriguais (AGRR)” for the organisation of the 3rd edition of the “Festival de Randonnee” from 30 September to 01 October 2023 under the theme ‘Sensibilisation et Decouverte’
- The Commission for Tourism was one of the major sponsor of the 14th Edition of the Trail de Rodrigues which was held on 05 November 2023 under the theme “Koste Zil Osean Indien”. This year, there were a total of 1043 participants. 435 foreign participants were welcomed from 14 different countries
2. The Commission for Tourism and the Rodrigues Tourism Office attended the following National and International Tourism Fairs:
- Salon Pret à Partir in Mauritius from the 25th to 27th August 2023
- The IFTM Top Resa 2023 in Paris, France from the 03rd to 05th Oct 2023
- Les Florileges in Reunion Island from the 13rd to 22rd October 2023 followed by a Workshop with the Travel Agencies in Reunion Island
- The World Travel Market 2023 held in ExCel, London from the 6th to the 8th November 2023
- Miel Vert which was held at Plaine des Cafres in Réunion Island from 05 to 14 January 2024
3. Swiss Tourism Awards 2023
Rodrigues Island was awarded the “Destination of Excellence” prize “for the pristine beaches, breathtaking natural landscapes and cultural authenticity” during the Swiss Tourism Awards 2023 which was held in Lugano, Switzerland from 3rd to 5th November 2023.
The Swiss Tourism Awards is a prestigious international award given in Switzerland for the purpose of showcasing excellence in different segments of the tourism industry and uncovering destinations with a strong tourism vocation that are not often part of the better-known tourist circuits.
4. In December 2023, The Rodrigues Tourism Office handed over a cheque of MUR 135,710 to the Rodrigues Regional Assembly representing dividends for FY 2022/2023.
5. The Commission for Tourism and the Rodrigues Tourism Office welcomed 03 cruise vessels from “La Compagnie du Ponant” during the month of December 2023.

6. Travel Trade Awards
Air Mauritius organised a Travel Trade Awards on 12 January 2024 to reward travel agents in Mauritius. The ceremony took place at the Hotel Le Meridien in Mauritius. The Commission for Tourism and the Rodrigues Tourism Office has the opportunity, during the ceremony, to reward the TOP Best Travel Agents (3 IATA and 3 Non-IATA) with a trophy and a certificate for their top sales during period April to December 2023.
7. Familiarisation Trip in Rodrigues
The Commission for Tourism and the Rodrigues Tourism Office welcomed a delegation from different travel agencies in South Africa for a Familiarisation Trip in Rodrigues organized by Thompson Holidays from 18 to 21 February 2024. This was an attempt to make the travel agents explore and discover Rodrigues as a new product to be sold to their clients and thereby increase the number of arrivals from South Africa which is relatively low.
8. Signature of a Memorandum of Understanding Polytechnics Mauritius for the launching of two (02) short courses for tourism operators as follows:
- Professional Front Office Operations
- Management Essentials
