On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the Chief Commissioner, Franceau Aubret Grandcourt, G.O.S.K., chaired the first meeting of the Central Task Force on the implementation of the Sustainable and Integrated Development Plan for Rodrigues (SIDPR 2023-2032). The meeting was held in the presence of the Deputy Chief Commissioner, Johnson Roussety, G.O.S.K, the Commissioner for Tourism, Jean Alain Wong So, and department heads, at the Centre for Sustainable Integrated Development in Contour Oblass.
The goal of the Central Task Force is to ensure the effective implementation of the recommendations of the SIDPR 2023-2032. This Task Force will meet monthly with the aim of developing strategic plans in collaboration with all commissions to realize the Regional Assembly’s vision of transforming Rodrigues into an Ecological Creole Island.
A special unit comprising a general director and six program managers will be established to oversee project monitoring, implement budgetary oversight, and facilitate communication and collaboration between the commissions. Developments will focus on environment, climate change, renewable energy, sustainable water production and distribution, sustainable tourism, the blue economy, bio agriculture, as well as SMEs and the private sector (socio-economic), among other areas.
The leaders aim to achieve the vision of an Ecological Creole Island through joint actions by the various commissions, such as land use planning, to ensure healthy and sustained development for future generations.
