About Us

The forestry department focuses on reafforestation programmes with a view to increase forest cover over the island of Rodrigues while enhancing its forest biodiversity. The total area under forest cover in Rodrigues is estimated at 3000 hectares.

Vision
  • To improve the management of forests catchment areas, sylvo pastoral areas and river reserves
Mission

  • To preserve and protect forest ecosystems including endangered flora and fauna for sustainability of the biodiversity of Rodrigues

Objectives
  • Reforest 1000 additional hectares of bare land by 2027
  • Prevent proliferation of Acacia Nilotica
  • Judicious use of fragile and limited resources (land)
  • Preventing unlawful animal grazing on state and agricultural land
