This includes handling the registration and transfer of vehicle ownership, processing import and export permits for motor vehicles, licensing public service vehicles, goods vehicles, and petrol stations, as well as collecting road tax and other license fees. Additionally, the department is responsible for monitoring and controlling vehicle examinations, licensing bus conductors, enforcing road transport legislation, and overseeing public transport service levels. It also compiles statistical data pertaining to motor vehicles and oversees the implementation of the Bus Modernisation Scheme.
