EDUCATION (Administration)
About Us
The Commission assists in the implementation of the master plan for educational development and the long-term development strategy of the education sector.
The Commission is responsible for the following areas:
(i) Education (Administration)
- General
- Pre-Primary Education
- Primary Education
- Secondary Education
(ii) Industrial Development
(iii) Trade, Commerce and Licensing
(iv) Development of Human Resources

Mission
- To strengthen the quality of education provided at Pre-primary, Primary and Secondary level
- To encourage the enrolment of all children in Pre-primary schools
- To provide inclusive education through greater parental involvement and social responsibility
- To ensure the provision of adequate school infrastructure, equipment and furniture and other basic necessities
Roles and Functions
This Unit is responsible for:
- The overall administration of education at Pre-primary, Primary and Secondary level
- The implementation of policies pertaining to education as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources
- The provision of adequate infrastructures, equipment and furniture
- Conducting and organising of examinations run by the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate
- The organisation of workshops/seminars for teaching staff in collaboration with the Mauritius Examinations Syndicates and other Educational Bodies
- The admission and transfer of pupils in pre-primary, Primary and Secondary Schools
Education (Administration)
About Us
The policy of the Education sector rests with the Central Government whereas through the Commission for Education, the Rodrigues Regional Assembly has the responsibility for the Administration of Education in Rodrigues.
Pre-primary Education
There are seventeen (17) Primary Schools in Rodrigues out of which twelve (12) are Government Primary Schools and five (05) are run by the Roman Catholic Education Authority (RCEA). The establishment of the Government Primary School comprises of Administration, Inspectorate, and Teaching and Non-teaching staff.
Primary Education
Rodrigues has thirty-four (34) Pre-primary Schools where three (3) are found within the premises of the Government Primary schools. Thirty-one (31) private pre-primary schools are run by the Association des Ecoles Maternelles de Rodrigues (AEMR). The CEd provides a grant-in-aid to the Association for its operation.
Secondary Education
There are eight secondary schools in Rodrigues out of which seven are managed by the Rodrigues Educational Development Company Limited operating under the aegis of the Commission for Education and one namely Rodrigues College founded in 1973 is managed by the Catholic and Anglican Church.
The Rodrigues Educational Development Company Limited (REDCO), to which the Rodrigues Regional Assembly owns 51% shares, manages the following secondary schools:
(i) Ananias Andre Le Chou College
(ii) Grande Montagne College
(iii) La Ferme College
(iv) Marechal College
(v) Mont Lubin
(vi) (vi) André Lelio Roussety Songes College
(vii) (vii) Terre Rouge College
The Commission fulfills its mandate for the Secondary Education under the Private Secondary Schools Education Authority (PSEA). The Commission is also responsible for the major infrastructural development of REDCO Colleges in Rodrigues.
Special Education Needs School (SENS)
The Commission has also the responsibility to oversee the following three Special Education Needs Schools (SEN) which are provided with grant-in aids:
- Trevor Huddleton House for Disabled Gonzague Pierre Louis Special Learning School
- Development and Learning Centre for Disabled Children
- EDYCs – Help to grow Rodrigues Educational and Rehabilitation Centre
There are also two (02) units which are managed by the Roman Catholic Authority and attached to Antoinette Prudence Ste Famille RCA school and St. Esprit RCA school respectively.
All the above mentioned SEN schools in Rodrigues have been registered with the SENA since September 2022.
